TAKT TRIO: LIGETI PROJECT

2023 marks the centenary of György Ligeti’s birth. His music remains a constant source of fascination for me ever since I discovered it in my teenage years, and his Horn Trio reveals more depth and opens new horizons of perception each time I approach it.

To mark this date and honor the potential Ligeti showed in this under-appreciated chamber music combination, I’m combining forces with two musicians I admire greatly: Conor Hanick (piano) and Austin Wulliman (violin).

We are teaming up to commission two titanic composers for concerts beginning in 2023, Marcos Balter and Hilda Paredes. Both composers are masterful artists of small ensemble composition, and the Paredes commission is supported by the Koussevitsky Music Foundation.

With a flexible roster of 33 leading instrumentalists performing in forces ranging from solos to large ensembles, the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) functions as performer, presenter, and educator, advancing the music of our time by developing innovative new works and pursuing groundbreaking strategies for audience engagement. In an era of radical change, ICE redefines concert music as it brings together new work and new listeners. For concert info, projects videos and more, go to iceorg.org
